Education Fund

When a child struggles in school, it can be incredibly frustrating for both the student and the parent. When a gifted child doesn't get the special attention he or she requires, it can keep that student from growing and reaching his or her full potential. When a parent can't get a job that pays enough to support a family, due to a lack of education, it can set into motion a chain of events which may alter the lives of each of the family members forever.

When HIV/AIDS strikes, it strikes more than just the health of the infected individual. It changes every other aspect of life for that individual and his or her family. House of Ruth developed the Education Fund to ensure that those affected by HIV/AIDS do not get left behind in the educational system.

The Education Fund provides assistance to both the infected and the affected, in the following areas:
  • Pre-school and day-care assistance

For lower-income parents, it may be difficult to find safe, reliable childcare at an affordable price. House of Ruth helps make it possible for parents to get the childcare they need, so they may go to work outside of the home.

  • Unique education needs

Whether a child is extremely gifted or struggles to master certain subjects, some need a little extra help and encouragement. The Education Fund provides financial assistance for mentoring and tutoring to enhance a child's classroom work.

  • Fees for high school students, graduation fees and college application fees.

House of Ruth will assist in covering these expenses that help children and adults move to their next educational level.

  • Assistance with higher education, vocation or trade school

The expense of tuition, books and other supplies can prevent both teens and adults from receiving the education and training they need to earn adequate wages. Through this fund, House of Ruth helps with the expenses that would otherwise impede the growth and success of these individuals.

  • Assistance with acquiring GED certification

For some, moving to the next form of higher education can be impossible without a high school diploma. This assistance helps move adults on to the next level.

  • Educational employment counseling

This service provided by House of Ruth offers referrals to outside employment agencies, transportation assistance, college textbooks, as well as moral support.

  • Wellness retreats

In keeping with House of Ruth's holistic view that the client's health is impacted by the body, mind and spirit, retreats are offered to educate clients on a wide variety of issues that affect their lives.
